One thing that you must avoid is repeating the content of a web page on your other web pages. Of course, copying content from other websites (without the permission of the copyright owner of that content) will amount to plagiarism which is a crime to be avoided no matter what; however, even repeating content across your own webpages is not recommended since it is not considered good by the search engines. Similarly, overstuffing of keywords can lead to search engines black listing your website i.e. search engines will ignore your website and will exclude it from its search results.

Objectionable content or abusive language is surely a big no for obvious reasons. Not only will it turn away traffic to your website but will also lead to your website getting a low rating from the search engines.
Also, if your website has good content, other websites will provide references and links to your site. This, in turn, will make your site more attractive to search engines (due to more links pointing to your site and increased traffic). Remember that the more links (good links) to your website, the better your website will rank with the search engines.
So, ensure that you have good quality content on your website. By good quality content we mean content that is grammatically correct, without spelling mistakes, is in conversational style and contains useful / interesting information.
In fact, you need proper planning in order to decide the content for your website. One good thing would be to identify the target audience for your website and write the content accordingly. You could even consider presenting your website in multiple languages i.e. multiple versions of your website wherein each version is in a different language in order to cater to an international audience.
